Singer/songwriter Peter Case gets back to his rock & roll roots by reforming his early 1980s combo, the sadly under-appreciated Plimsouls, for this 1998 release. KOOL TRASH crackles with its shimmering yet earthy combination of Rolling Stones-ish guitar raunch, Beatles/Kinks-style and soul-strut tunefulness. Case's astute songwriting merges 1960s R&B with garage-band aggressiveness. Case sings like John Lennon in 1966, the guitars mix REM/Byrds-like jangle with harsh, Clash-ing rawness, and Blondie drummer Clem Burke drives the band and the songs with plenty of bim-bam-boom. This is a perfect album for the Friday night blues or a Saturday night party.
