Twenty-six years after the iconic American punk band Black Flag broke up, founder, guitarist, and sole constant member Greg Ginn has resurrected the group, reuniting with vocalist Ron Reyes (who sang on 1980's Jealous Again) to cut a new album of original material. What The... features 22 songs, shorts burst of angry energy in the tradition of the songs that first made Black Flag's name, with Ginn showing off the angular guitar solos that made him one of the most influential guitarist in hardcore punk. The new lineup also features Gregory Amoore, who has worked with Ginn on many of his solo projects, as well as Dale Nixon on bass, better known to fans as Ginn's alias when playing the four-string. オリジナル・メンバーのグレッグ・ギン(ギター)を中心に復活した伝説のバンドが、28年ぶりとなるニュー・アルバムをリリース! ヘンリー・ロリンズ(ヴォーカル)が不参加ということで疑問の声もチラホラ上がっていたが、実際に音を聴いてブッ飛んだ。次から次へと石礫を投げつけてくるような剛速球のメタリックなハードコア・サウンドは、まさしくブラック・フラッグ以外の何者でもない。ちなみに、ヴォーカルを取るのは80年のEP『JealousAgain』に参加していた2代目シンガーのロン・レイズで、当時よりもパワフルな咆哮を聴かせてくれている。ロンの脱退(クビ?)を受けて早くもバンド存続の危機に陥っているようだが、まずは理屈抜きに血が騒ぐこの新作を届けてくれたことに感謝したい。
