言わずと知れた名門〈Verve Records〉の栄光の歴史を彩ったシングル曲を厳選し、CD5枚組の全100曲に凝縮した全ジャズ・ファン必携のボックス・セット。1956年にノーマン・グランツによって設立されたヴァーヴですが、本作ではその前身となった〈Clef Records〉(1946年設立)、〈Norgran Records〉(1953年設立)時期にJATP、チャーリー・パーカー、コールマン・ホーキンス、ビリー・ホリデイ等が吹き込んだ貴重なシングル音源もふんだんに収録!さらにエラ・フィッツジェラルド、ルイ・アームストロング、オスカー・ピーターソン、フレッド・アステア、ビング・クロスビー等の1950年代後半の音源、そして1964年に登場した『The Girl From Ipanema』を筆頭に、世界にジャズ新時代の到来を告げたボサノヴァ曲等々、どれをとってもジャズの歴史に燦然と輝く名曲ばかり!
