Arriving the year after 1986's GLADYS' LEAP, this was the second album by the fully rejuvenated Fairport Convention. This set consists entirely of instrumentals, which range from traditional jigs and reels to a medley of songs from rock & roll's first decade ("Apache," Pipeline," Peter Gunn," and "Shazam"). Fairport Convention's musicians, all seasoned players, well-versed in the traditions that forged the band's identity, also wrote most of the selections. This line-up of the band--guitarist and founding member Simon Nicol, bass player Dave Pegg, drummer Dave Mattacks, violinist Ric Sanders, and multi-instrumentalist Martin Allcock--was to become the longest-running in Fairport's long history. Alumni Richard Thompson and Jerry Donahue also turn up during the aforementioned medley.
