Alexander Ridha's addition to London club Fabric's Fabriclive series is a little more restless than his commercially released 2008 mixes, I Love Techno 2008 and Bugged Out! Presents Suck My Deck. Just over half of Ridha's 31 selections are aired out for less than two minutes, while just about all of them are duly bold and frenetic. There are some inspired newer choices, such as Kingdom's elastic "Femme Litre" and Four Tet's wonderfully scuffed-up "For These Times." Younger Boys Noize fans who haven't traced back through the previous couple decades of dance music are in for some treats: DJ Deeon's "Work This MF," Dave Clarke's "The Compass," and I-F's "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass," all between 14 and 16 years old at the time of this mix's release, still sound fantastic and aren't out-muscled by the later material. Three of the cuts that receive more attention involve Ridha in some form. "Chella Ride," co-produced by Ridha and Sonny "Skrillex" Moore under the name Dog Blood, is smack in the mix's middle with abundant rowdiness and flurries of vocal cut-ups. The Boys Noize reprise of Apparat's "Arcadia," placed at the very end and nearly seven minutes in length, forms the best track-to-track sequence; it trails a clever fusion of Kolsch's "Goldfisch" and the a cappella of Ridha's own "XTC." Starting as a sweet and tranquil closer, its acid line discreetly appears around the three-minute mark, heightens in intensity, and portends a battering finale. In terms of selections and sequencing, this is the finest Boys Noize mix yet. ~ Andy Kellman|
