サリヴァン晩年の大作《美の石》!エリン・マナハン・トーマスも参加!

19世紀後半のイギリスにおける舞台音楽、特にオペレッタの作曲家として名を馳せたアーサー・サリヴァン(1897-97)の「美の石(The Beauty Stone)」は、1898年5月28日にサヴォイ劇場で初演が行われた"ロマンティック・ミュージック・ドラマ"。長年コンビを組んだ名パートナー、ウィリアム・S・ギルバートではなく、アーサー・ウィング・ピネロ(1855-1934)とジョセフ・ウィリアム・コミンス・カー(1849-1916)の台本を用いた晩年の大作である。「アイヴァンホー」以降のサリヴァンの見過ごされてきた舞台作品の魅力を伝える記録としても非常に貴重。エリン・マナハン・トーマスやトビー・スペンス、レベッカ・エヴァンス、アラン・オピーなど、豪華キャスト陣が花を添える。
