Although a fair number of musicians have passed through its ranks-with only keyboard player Alan Reid remaining from the original lineup-the Battlefield Band could be forgiven for taking it easy this far into its career. Indeed, at first hearing, the five songs contained herein may sound a little mellow. Fortunately, repeated playing reveals them to be finely polished gems. "One More Chorus" celebrates the hectic lifestyle of an Edinburgh pub band. Many of the songs are imbued with melancholy, whether the subject is the passing of the era of plow horses ("Last Trip Home") or a young man pre-empting the closure of his job and taking his sweetheart back to his home town and an uncertain future ("The Pleasure Will Be Mine"). The tunes, of course, are instantly appealing, as befits a band famed for its multi-instrumental prowess. The title tune, introduced on fiddle and piano, with the captivating addition of bagpipes midway through, is especially beautiful. This CD includes 4 short extracts of tracks from other group/solo albums.
