Recording information: Swedish Radio, Gothenburg, Sweden (04/1999-06/1999). A Swedish jazz guitarist, Peter Almqvist has an appealing sound and a melodic style. On this set he is the only performer, heard on unaccompanied solos and overdubbed duets. With a few exceptions (Django Reinhardt's "Manoir de Mes Reves," Barney Kessel's "Minor Mood," and the Beatles' "Goodnight"), the repertoire consists of veteran standards such as "The Song Is You," "Limehouse Blues," and "Airegin." Almqvist plays quite well throughout, although -- even with tempo variations -- there is not all that much variety. Still, it's a pleasing effort. ~ Scott Yanow
