クァドリーガ・コンソートは、古楽をポップ・ミュージックの起源ととらえ、イギリス中世のバラードと歌曲、ケルトと宮廷音楽の伝統から陽気なダンス音楽に至るまで、ピリオド楽器を使用して親しみやすい音楽を奏で注目を浴びているオリジナル楽器のアンサンブルです。古風なメロディは、彼らの典型的で本格的な音楽の基礎となって、斬新な解釈は、ヨーロッパの若者までも心を揺さぶっています。「今日の多くのポップ音楽に含まれる愛、憧れ、喜びと悲しみの表現は、古代の歌と比較してあまりにも薄すぎます。それほど古典歌曲や音楽は直感的なのです」。そうした数多くの古い音楽の中から、イギリスのクリスマスの音楽やキャロルを、古めかしい宗教的な音楽ではなく、現代的なポップな感覚で演奏しています。昨年ドイツのインディ・レーベルで発売されて評判を呼び、このたびドイツ・ハルモニア・ムンディ・レーベルでワールドワイドで発売されることになりました。
