This pairs up two of Thomas' original Stax albums on one compact disc. The first ten tracks emanate from 1970 and 1971 sessions that produced the Did You Heard Me? album, featuring the hits "Do the Push and Pull" and "Do the Funky Penguin." The follow-up, 1972's Crown Prince of Dance, wasn't as successful musically or sales-wise, but features plenty of Thomas' funky dancefloor rave-ups like "Funkiest Man Alive," "The Funky Bird," and a nice duet with daughter Carla Thomas on "Steal a Little." This would end up being Thomas' last album for the label before it went under, and it still holds up well. ~ Cub Koda
