4年間の活動休止期間を経て、2012年にリリースされた4作目『フォー』に5曲の新曲収録のEP『ザ・ネクストウェーヴ・セッションズ』が付いたデラックス盤がリリース! 『フォー』は全英初登場3位を記録、アルバム・リリース前にはHostess Club Weekenderにトリとして出演、また2013年の単独来日公演がソールド・アウトする等ここ日本でも完全復活を印象付けたブロック・パーティー。2012年のワールド・ツアー中に作られた5曲の新曲を収録したEP『ザ・ネクストウェーヴ・セッションズ』はそんなバンドの第二黄金期を捉えた必聴作! 収録曲「Ratchet」、「Obscene」はフランツ・フェルディナンドやホット・チップを手掛けてきたダン・キャリーをプロデューサーに迎え制作された。

With an album title that reflects the years between the band's albums, the number of its members, and its place in the band's discography, Four shows there's more life in Bloc Party's music than most would have predicted. Bloc Party push harder on these songs than they have in years, and there's barely a synthesizer or sequencer to be found. Four is far harder-edged than any of their music since Silent Alarm or their early EPs, and they spend equal time in familiar territory and breaking new ground. The real star is guitarist Russell Lissack, who unleashes hesher-friendly riffs and solos with the pent-up fury of a four-year break behind him. 活動休止を経て完成した4年ぶりの新作は、ほぼギター、ベース、ドラムスだけでバックを固め、4人の濃密なアンサンブルが楽しめる一枚に。ディストーション・サウンドでグランジ感を演出する冒頭曲や、バグらせたようなギター音の掛け合いがおもしろい“Octopus”など、アグレッシヴなナンバーを取り揃え、不仲説を吹き飛ばします。ねちっこいケリーの歌唱もスリル満点で、初作を思い出すファンも多いことでしょう。
