This reissue from the U.K.'s Expansion label combines the first two albums by multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer O'Bryan. Originally released on Capitol, both Doin' Alright (1982) and You and I (1983) broke into the Top 15 of Billboard's Black LPs chart, driven by singles such as the Cameo-like synth funk/rock hybrid "The Gigolo," the Midnight Star-meets-Prince jam "I'm Freaky," and updates of Smokey Robinson and Frank Wilson's "Still Water (Love)" and Stevie Wonder's "You and I." This is strictly for serious fans who have been waiting to get these albums on CD from a loving label. As of 2014, The Best of O'Bryan remained adequate for casual listeners due to its inclusion of later hits "Lovelite" and "Tenderoni." ~ Andy Kellman
