1991年9月にリリースされた2作目のスタジオ・アルバムにしてメジャー・デビュー作。Sonic Youthが在籍していたGDCからリリースされた本作は1992年1月、Michael Jacksonの"Dangerous"を蹴落とし全米アルバム・チャート1位に輝いた。全世界で3,000万枚以上売り上げた、当時のグランジ・シーンを象徴する作品。
