Chances are you don't think of the piano as an instrument common in Southeast Asia. But this album highlights the amazing ways this western keyboard has been adapted to Asian musical forms. These vocal and instrumental pieces evoke the percussive style of Burmese music, with challenging melodic structures and dissonance that is reminiscent of Thelonious Monk.
