Andy Statman's klezmer band has an impressive lineup of high-caliber jazz performers that bring serious musicianship to this album. Some of these pieces feel loose and meandering, as in the marvelously freeform "You Were Revealed." At other moments, Statman seems lost in the memory of a more traditional sound--"Maggid" and "Adir" are quiet contemplations of clarinet and piano. However, as soon as Statman begins to sound like he is delving deep into a traditional representation of klezmer clarinet, he joyously leaps off into the unknown.
