Music from one of the top modern groups in mbube, a vocal sound with roots in traditional Azanian choral music, gospel and doo wop. All lyrics are in the Zulu language.
Recording information: Revill Studios.

Though Ladysmith Black Mambazo performed and recorded in their native South Africa throughout most of the 1970s, it is difficult to find those recordings in the United States. 1984's INDUKU ZETHU is one of the earliest Ladysmith albums released in the states (via the folk label Shanachie), and it features the acclaimed vocal group at their straightforward best. Ladysmith's core aesthetic is rooted in the fusion of Christian choral music and traditional Zulu songs, and features deep, ringing harmonies, call-and-response sections, and the accents of whirs, whoops, and sighs. The group would gain significant attention in America after their participation on Paul Simon's GRACELAND, but this earlier set gives listeners a chance to hear Ladysmith in an unadorned, pre-spotlight setting.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
