Despite its somewhat cheesy title, She's a Rebel is actually a fairly decent collection of music from mid- to late-'90s female-fronted bands, including the Muffs, who bookend the album with the songs "Oh Nina" and "Goodnight Now." The album offers a pretty broad spectrum of sounds, from Tribe 8's dense, confrontational "Mendo Hoo-Ha" and "Tranny Chaser" to Battershell's relatively light and whimsical "Prick." She's a Rebel also works as a time capsule of the era, bringing to mind some of its more unsung bands like Bandit Queen, Bell, and Cake Like, whose "Suck" is another of the album's highlights. Originally a collection benefiting the breast cancer charity Rock for a Cure, the album now works as a small tribute to the women musicians who went beyond Lillith and riot grrl at the end of the '90s. ~ Heather Phares
