The Undertones kick-started their career by releasing their first EP, TEENAGE KICKS, themselves. The album made clear that the band had prodigious pop smarts and a powerful, roaring-engine of a sound. Their spunky and catchy songs roared forth for a half-dozen years and featured the colorful and dramatic vocals of Feargal Sharkey. Youthful innocence, exuberance and good old fun characterize their music. The band continued to mature in the studio and produced a third album, POSITIVE TOUCH, that was a stunning pop masterpiece--deep, broad and gorgeously layered. Unfortunately, the youthful vigor of The Undertones was done in by a sort of world-weariness, as the commercial failure of their increasingly mature works brought the band to a halt. This is a great collection, an essential slice of unbridled pop rock.
