Recording information: Mindway Studio, Chicago, IL (12/1990-01/1991). SEXPLOSION! was originally released on Chicago indie label Wax Trax! in 1991. It was reissued--with altered cover art and a slightly different track list--on Atlantic subsidiary Interscope in 1992, then again on Rykodisc in 1999. Following their CONFESSIONS OF A KNIFE record, SEXPLOSION! saw My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult move firmly into the realm of kitschy sex/dance music previously been ruled by the techno group the Lords of Acid, while simultaneously incorporating the some of the more sinister notions of (late period) Psychic TV. MLWTTKK work their songs around thick, slithering basslines, while adding flourishes of everything from an intentionally cheesy organ, swinging 60's-style horn sections, and movie dialogue samples. Highlights are "A Martini Built for Two," which wouldn't sound out of place in a pornographic James Bond parody with artistic pretensions and "Princess of the Queens (The Lost Generation)," a pop/r'n'b hybrid 5 or 6 years ahead of its time. "Sex On Wheelz"--which comes complete with tires screeching, heavy duty guitar riffs, catchy piano inserts, and cocky lyrics--also appears as one of several hyped-up remix versions added as bonus tracks. SEXPLOSION! is the definitive document in high-gloss disco sleaze.
