Recording information: 02/25/1956-10/07/1959. This excursion into the vaults of Apollo Records yields some marvelous doo wop moments. The Delroys' "Bermuda Shorts" features "rap" slang some 50 years before it came into vogue, and the Cellos' "Rang Tang Ding Dong (I Am the Japanese Sandman)" is one of the great nonsense vocal-group recordings of all time. The balance of the set shines the spotlight on lesser-known acts like the Vocaltones, the Tonettes, La Fets and Kitty, the Chesters (with Little Anthony), the Casanovas, the Claremonts, Armanda and the Jays, the Brochures, and the Admirations. No big names on this volume, but a ton of great doo wop, which is exactly what you're looking for. ~ Cub Koda
