"Introducing" is a misleading title for an album by a band formed 23 years earlier, but Introducing...My Dying Bride collects material spanning the entire decades-long career of this heavily influential British metal act, and charts the development of their often theatrical and always epic sound, including periods of gothic tendencies, doom metal influences, and their unique blend of heavy sounds and darkly poetic lyricism. "Epic" is a keyword for all of the 12 tracks strewn across the collection's almost-90-minute running time. Very few of the selections clock in under the six-minute mark, and some, like the ominous "The Cry of Mankind" or the classically touched "In Your Dark Pavilion" lope on for over ten minutes, churning with dramatic tension and building sonically from spare beginnings to burning climaxes. ~ Fred Thomas|
