The two albums included on this disc offer the talents of the remaining three members of the Mills Brothers, one of the greatest and longest lasting vocal groups. Their early days in the 1930s are very much in evidence in these recordings of 50 years later. Their approach to both old and new numbers here remains essentially the same as it was at the beginning of their career, with a warmth and thoughtfulness pervading each melody and set of lyrics.
COUNTRY MUSICS GREATEST HITS features the Brothers easygoing style with traditional C&W musical treatments. "San Antonio Rose" blends their sure crooning with a chorus and sliding electric guitar, and the result has the liveliness of a county fair. 50TH ANNIVERSARY finds the trio revisiting melodies it performed as long as 45 years earlier. The Mills Brothers first recorded "Dinah" in 1931, and though here the technique has changed, the soul remains the same.
