Rainbow、Black Sabbathで活躍したスーパー・ヴォーカリスト、Ronnie James Dio(ロニー・ジェイムス・ディオ)が率い、2010年5月のロニーの死後も強固な支持を集めるへヴィ・メタル・バンド、DIOの1987年発表4thアルバムのデラックス・エディション。前作『セイクレッド・ハート』を最後に脱退したヴィヴィアン・キャンベルに替わって、有能なコンポーザーでもあるギタリスト、クレイグ・ゴールディを新メンバーに加え、よりスピーディでソリッドなへヴィ・メタルで新たな高みへと到達した4thアルバム。初期DIOでヴィニー・アピス(ds)が参加した最後の作品でもある。本作の制作メンバーはロニー・ジェイムズ・ディオ(vo)、クレイグ・ゴールディ(g)、ヴィニー・アピス(ds)、ジミー・ベイン(b)、クロード・シュネル(key)。プロデュースはロニー・ジェイムズ・ディオ。CD1にはオリジナル収録の9曲のリマスター音源を収録。CD2には1986年発表の『DIO EP』からの「Hide In The Rainbow」、「I Could Have Been A Dreamer」のシングル・ヴァージョン、そして1987年のドニントンで英BBCが録音したライヴ・ヴァージョン13曲といったボーナス・トラックを収録。

Dream Evil is by no means a departure from the Dio formula that was so successful for his first three solo albums. All of the elements that made them so successful are yet again retained here. However, what makes things different this time around is that Dio has more of a melodious side to him, which he puts use here rather than relying on the riffs and delivery he learned at the school of Sabbath. He even touches on the power ballad (a sure sign that the style had fully infiltrated metal) with "All the Fool Sailed Away." The title track and "Sunset Superman" also proved to be two of Dio's most well-known, and most loved songs in his massive catalog. Not an essential release, but one that diehard fans will be sure to want in their collection. ~ Rob Theakston|

普遍的なﾍｳﾞｨｰ･ﾛｯｸが魅力。派手さはないが､内容は充実している｡なかでも新ｷﾞﾀﾘｽﾄの粘っこいﾌﾟﾚｲとﾛﾆｰの強力無比なｳﾞｫｰｶﾙが聴き所｡楽曲も水準以上｡
