Westside Connection: Ice Cube, W.C., Mack 10. Producers include: Ice Cube, QDIII. Engineers include: Ice Cube. Recorded at Westsiiiiide Studios, California and Treehouse Studios, South Africa. Personnel: Fernando Perdigao (programming). Audio Mixer: Ice Cube. Recording information: Treehouse Studios, South Africa; Westsiiiide Studios, CA. Illustrator: Steven A. Wills. Photographer: Michael Miller . Gangsta Rap, from some gentlemen who know a thing or two about the style. Ice Cube, W.C. and Mack 10 are the core of this outfit, and the tracks cover the usual subjects: urban violence, drug dealing, and general anti-establishment behavior. The sound is west coast all the way, with flowing, quick-tempo raps over sparse, repetitive beats. Few surprises here musically; "Bow Down" is typical of the lot, as the crew demands respect from those who would dare to challenge their supreme authority as rappers, gangsters, and Mack Daddies. There's also some coastal rivalry here: in "All the Critics in New York" Cube voices his displeasure with the rappers he used to respect, but who now criticize and, even worse, imitate him. This is raw, straight-up urban music, not for young children or the faint of heart.

商品の紹介

Rolling Stone (12/12/96, p.86) - 3.5 Stars (out of 5) - "...Ice Cube is one of the few rap artists...still capable of making you think, even if you don't agree with a word he says....the West Coast's answer to what the group believes is years of 'criticism and disrespect' from the East Coast..." Vibe (12/96, p.186) - "...BOW DOWN will no doubt be bouncin' every hooptie west of the Hudson..." The Source (12/96, p.123) - 4.5 Mics (out of 5) - "...BOW DOWN is the best Ice Cube-related project in years--10 tracks and three skits of well-executed and tightly produced songs....All three Westside Connection MCs put their all into this...as evidenced by their delivery..."
Rovi

Following Lethal Injection, Ice Cube's career began to sag slightly, both in terms of sales and critical respect. As a response, he formed Westside Connection with fellow West Coast gangsta rappers Mack 10 and WC -- the first hip-hop supergroup ever formed. Bow Down, the trio's debut, is everything you would expect from this pedigree, for better and for worse. Musically, the record is fantastic, with tight, slamming production that alternates between driving hardcore rhythms and elastic booty-funk. Similarly, all three rappers give brilliant performances, rhyming with fierce venom and grace. The problem is, the trio -- who have all demonstrated exceptional observational skills and social commentary in the past -- have decided to abandon their conscious for a spirited defense and celebration of gangsta rap. If anyone has represented the best gangsta has had to offer, it would be Ice Cube, Mack 10, and WC, but none of their lyrics here illustrate this; instead, they simply make half-hearted excuses for the violence and no political attacks at authority, which renders it nearly devoid of content. Nevertheless, Bow Down is filled with so much exceptional music that it ranks as one of the finest latter-day gangsta rap records. Listening to it, however, it's hard not to believe that it is an epitaph for the genre. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

ice cube a.k.a the gangsta,wc a.k.a the killa,mack10 a.k.a the dope diller、いかつい三人が手を組んだグループ、westside connection。
