Brooklyn's Sauce Money is probably best known for his writing credit on Puff Daddy's breakout hit "I'll Be Missing You," as well as guest appearances as a member of Jay Z's Rock-A-Fella clique. On his debut solo release, Sauce sets out to establish his credentials as a major player on his own terms. Featuring such hip-hop luminaries as Puff Daddy, Jay Z, and Memphis Bleek, Sauce's debut asserts his position among the heavyweights. Taking many of his production cues from the New Orleans crews, much of the album seems to be Brooklyn's answer to the faster Southern hip-hop sound. However, Sauce remains true to his East Coast roots, as much of the music relies on sampled riffs rather than a totally synthetic sound. The tight, repetitive programming evokes decidedly futurist notions of hip-hop production. On the DJ Premier-esque "Intruder Alert," cut-up and transformed horn samples form a dynamic rhythmic base for Sauce's tough rhymes. A camper side is displayed on "For My Hustlaz," which features a Frank Stallone sample from "Staying Alive," used to maximum ironic effect.
