Crimson's 2012 two-fer pairs 1988's Heavy Nova with 1990's Don't Explain, adding bonus tracks to each album. These are the records delivered right in the wake of Palmer's mid-'80s "Addicted to Love"/Power Station high, and Heavy Nova does play a little like Riptide, Pt. 2, with Don't Explain getting slicker and smoother and just a little bit weird underneath the gloss (a good chunk of the album was made in collaboration with legendary jazz producer Teo Macero). On Heavy Nova, the bonus tracks are primarily extended mixes and remixes but Don't Explain has actual outtakes that deepen the album. Neither album is perfect, but both have plenty of great music and they make for a worthwhile two-fer. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
