Love, Peace and Happiness (LPH) were under the New Birth Umbrella created by Harvey Fuqua (the other entities were the Nightlighers and New Birth). LPH was Ann Bogan, and Melvin & Leslie Wilson (brothers), who also sang with New Birth, Bogan herself appeared on some early New Birth tracks, supplying backing vocals on "It's Impossible," and others. Previously, Bogan, a native of Cleveland, OH, recorded on Harvey and Tri-Phi Records, and toured and recorded with the Marvelettes in their waning years. Fuqua arranged and produced the eight cuts, harkening back to his Motown days by reviving "I Don't Want to Do Wrong," a hit for Gladys Knight & the Pips, with a co-writers credit to Katherine Anderson -- Schaffner sang with Bogan in the Marvelettes. Bogan displays some deep soul roots on the bluesy ballad. "You've Chosen Me" was also recorded by the reformed Moonglows (Fuqua's old group, ) who had the best version, the ballad was written by Robert Wilson. While "If I Owned the World (I'd Give It To You)" rates as the album best slow jam. A spirited version of Wilson Pickett's "Don't Knock My Love" provides a nice finale for the pleasant set. ~ Andrew Hamilton
