One of the classic overlooked albums of '70s punk, the self-titled 1977 debut by Boston's Real Kids is a punchy, poppy garage-rock blast that not only stands up to the best New york and London had to offer that year, it positively shreds later Boston garage-rockers like DMZ and the Lyres. Led by singer/songwriter John Felice, the Real Kids took the retro-rock tendencies of the Flamin' Groovies or the early Modern Lovers (a band Felice co-founded with his next-door neighbor Jonathan Richman) and added a dash of Ramones-style speed, Cheap Trick flash and garage rock sweat, in the process coming up with at least three or four all-time classics, including the power-popping "All Kindsa Girls," the greasy "Taxi Boys" and a tribute to a local Boston scenester, "Do the Boob." Not many outside of New England know how fantastic this album is, but here's your chance to find out.
