80年代のディスコ/クラブのアンダーグラウンド・シーンで流行し、なおかつ現在入手困難、そしてさらに重要なポイントとして楽曲が優れていることが前提でコンパイルされている人気シリーズの第13弾。今回はストック・エイトケン・ウォーターマンのプロデュース、HAYWOODEのデビュー曲であるアーバン・ディスコ・ナンバーからスタートし、REAL THINGやRAH BAND、CARL ANDERSONにCASHFLOWらのレアな12インチ・バージョンを収録。

The 13th volume of PTG's label's Masterpiece: The Ultimate Disco Funk Collection series has a handful of highlights but contains too much marginal or merely decent '80s R&B to be recommended to anyone but the most serious collectors. Among the minor gems here are the Delfonics' Major Harris' "All My Life" (mixed by Nick Martinelli and David Todd), Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Take a Chance" (a B-side from A Long Time Coming single "High Horse"), RAH Band's goofy "Messages from the Stars" (a number 42 U.K. hit in 1983), the Real Thing's Cameo-ish "Mystique" (a 1986 B-side), and Intrigue's "I Like It" (solid U.K. boogie from 1982). ~ Andy Kellman
