As billed, Larks' Tongues in Aspic: The Complete Recordings is every known live and studio performance of the quintet version of King Crimson with the inimitable Jamie Muir. It was a special band that lasted only a short time but had a lasting influence, so it's great to have it all collected in one place (most of the live material has been previously released on CD or download by DGM). The sound quality is generally quite good on the live stuff and the band improvisations are excellent. The 2012 mix by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp brings a previously unheard level of clarity to the album but the set also includes the 30th anniversary album remaster as well as rips of the original U.K. and U.S. vinyl for the real curmudgeons. There's even amazing footage of the band live on German TV that captures what a manic performer Jamie Muir could be. This is clearly not a set for the casual fan, but it fills a need for the serious King Crimson aficionado. ~ Sean Westergaard
