In 2012, a few years after Expansion combined Shame on the World and I Only Have Eyes for You on one CD release, the U.K. label revisited the Main Ingredient catalog to re-circulate the group's fifth and sixth albums. Afrodisiac (1973) and Euphrates River (1974) were popular sets that peaked, respectively, at number 16 and number eight on Billboard's Soul LPs chart. The earlier album contains a load of mostly solid Stevie Wonder covers, as well as a fine update of the Isley Brothers' "Work to Do." On Euphrates River, they trump the Isleys' version of "Summer Breeze," cover Stevie again ("Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing"), and deliver a knockout interpretation of Willie Hutch's "California My Way." There's a pair of Top Ten soul singles, too: "Just Don't Want to Be Lonely" and "Happiness Is Just Around the Bend." ~ Andy Kellman
