USM Media's 2012 budget-line collection The Kings of Country rounds up songs from the Highwaymen -- not the country supergroup itself but rather,, early recordings from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings. As only Cash had hits with his early sides, this results in a slightly lopsided collection; his Sun singles sit alongside pretty good but not iconic cuts by a confident Waylon and a tentative, explorative Willie. Everything here is pretty enjoyable, but the audience for this will likely be disappointed that it doesn't deliver more authentic bang for the buck. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
