マリーナ・ショウの『Who Is this Bitch, Anyway?』と双璧をなす、ブルーノートのクロスオーヴァー系の女性ヴォーカル1976年名盤が、ボーナス・トラック収録で“Cherry Red”から復刻！ジョー・サンプル、ラリー・カールトン、ウィルトン・フェルダーのクルセーダーズ勢に、ハーヴィー・メイスン、デイヴ・グルーシン、ヴィクター・フェルドマンといった、当時、大活躍中の腕利きセッションマンが参加、ブルー・ミッチェル、アーニー・ワッツ、ドン・メンザらによるブラス隊も加わり見事なビッグ・バンド・サウンドで、アース・ウィンド＆ファイア、ビル・ウィザース、ジェイムス・テイラー、エリック・カルメン、ケニー・ランキン、アリス・クーパーといったポップス/ロックの楽曲を中心に、その他チック・コリア(リターン・トゥ・フォーエヴァー)、ガーシュウィン、サド・ジョーンズなどをカヴァー。アリス・クーパーのカヴァー「Only Women Bleed」のシングル・ヴァージョンをボーナス・トラックとして収録。

This is the type of session that killed Blue Note the first time around. Carmen McRae gamely tries to interpret unsuitable and inferior pop tunes ("The Man I Love" and "A Child Is Born" are the only exceptions) and is backed by an all-star but faceless orchestra that is given nothing to do. The trumpet section (which includes Buddy Childers, Bobby Shew, Al Aarons, Snooky Young, Oscar Brashear and Blue Mitchell) is not given a single solo. The title cut is quite ludicrous and songs such as "Only Women Bleed" and "I Wish You Well" do not fit McRae's style at all. Pass on this one and get her earlier Deccas or her later Novus releases instead. ~ Scott Yanow|

キャント・ハイド・ラヴ＜完全期間限定盤＞｜CDアルバム
ジャズ・スタンダードからフュージョン・タッチのポップ・ナンバーまで多彩な選曲だが、どの曲もちゃんとマクレー流になっているところが、マクレーのマクレーたる所以だ。また、サド・ジョーンズ、ジョニー・マンデル、デイヴ・グルーシン他アレンジャー陣が充実、曲ごとにアレンジの妙を楽しむことができる。特にグルーシンのアレンジ⑦は絶品だ。
