Ironically, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist's warm and intimate folk-soul sound resembles one of the early- to mid-'70s, as his composition style -- paired with Paul Butler's throwback production approach -- evokes comparisons to classic recordings by the likes of Bill Withers, the Band, Van Morrison, and Terry Callier.

各メディアがこぞって2012年のブレイク候補に挙げる新人……といったお決まりのフレーズはさておき。この北ロンドンの若者を紹介する際の比較対象としてもっとも相応しいのは、本人も影響を公言するテリー・キャリアーだろう。ソウルとジャズとフォークが温かい歌声によってじわりと溶け合うような聴き心地や、チャールズ・ステップニーを思わせる優美なアレンジなど共通点は多いが、ギターを爪弾きながら訥々と歌われる表題曲をはじめ、どこか達観したような語り口はこの男ならではの味わいか。小気味良いシャッフル・ビートを纏って〈レトロ・ヴィンテージ〉とするエイミー以降の潮流とはまた違う、正統派シンガー・ソングライターの系譜に属するヴィンテージ感。デビュー作にしてこの熟成度は驚異的だ。
