Veteran singer-songwriter John Hiatt shows off his versatility on LITTLE HEAD, proving himself to be not only a skilled guitarist and a smart, funny songwriter, but also a smoothly soulful singer, especially on ballads like "My Sweet Girl" and "After All This Time." The title track is a bluesy tongue-in-cheek non-apology for hormone-driven behavior: "I'm talking with a tight red sweater/I'm feeling like Eddie Vedder/Only twice as cool when she starts winking/I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinking." Hiatt's voice turns easily from silky to gritty on rockers like the outrageous "Sure Pinocchio" and the energetically defiant "Pirate Radio." As always,he bridges the gaps between rock and roll, country, r&b, soul, and blues without a backward glance.
