Following the breakout success of their multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated debut, We Started Nothing, British duo the Ting Tings armed themselves with new perspectives and revitalized energy for sophomore album Sounds from Nowheresville. Its title derived from the twosome's creative process this time around, much of the album was written while on tour, then recorded in Mercia, Spain and Berlin over the course of more than eight months. Inspired by the exuberant musical freedom of the Beastie Boys' 1989 classic, Paul's Boutique, the Ting Tings made many stops on the pop music map with Sounds from Nowheresville, recalling the atmospheric shoegazing of Lush with "Silence," paying tribute to '60s girl groups with "Guggenheim," and fusing their synthy dance pop with the genre-hopping imagination of tUnE-yArDs with leadoff single "Hang It Up."|
