Following the success of their 2011 debut, Cape Dory, married indie rockers Tennis shift gears some on their second album, Young & Old. Following a straight year of international touring, the band regrouped quickly, writing most of the material on Young & Old in a three-month period. In interviews, Tennis tunesmith Patrick Riley has referred to the new album's change of direction as moving from a more straightforward indie pop sound to "Stevie Nicks going through a Motown phase."

50～60年代風味のレトロ・ポップを奏でるコロラド在住の夫婦デュオが、ブラック・キーズのパトリック・カーニー(ドラムス)をプロデューサーに迎えて2作目を発表した。夢から覚めたらそのまま消えてしまいそうな儚さが魅力的だった『Cape Dory』に比べ、2人の作るポップソングが力強い演奏と共に現実味たっぷりに鳴らされている。前作と作品の雰囲気は異なるものの、その甘酸っぱさはやはり格別だ。
