Bay Area hardcore act Ceremony add a dose of post-punk to their blistering sound on Zoo, their fourth album and first for indie giant Matador Records. Slipping in influences from bands like the Pixies, the Fall, and Wire, the album finds them moving away from the relentless aggression of their earlier work in favor of a murkier, thoughtful brand. Though the change might seem a bit jarring for longtime Ceremony fans, this more varied approach definitely feels like a step in a new and interesting direction.
