Even without an official debut, rapper A$AP Rocky spent 2012 performing alongside Rihanna at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, playing Lana Del Rey's husband in the singer's "National Anthem" video, and landing a spot in a television commercial for the popular video game FIFA Soccer 13. For 2013, he's doing it real big with Santigold, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, and Yelawolf as his guests on this official debut. Production comes from the likes of Clams Casino, Danger Mouse, and Jim Jonsin, but look for "Wild for the Night" to think outside the hip-hop box with some help from dubstep superstar Skrillex.

2011年のベスト・アルバムに挙げる人も多かったフリー音源『Live.Love.A$AP』から1年余り、エイサップ・モブでのミックステープ『Lords Never Worry』を間に挿んでいよいよメジャー・デビュー作が完成。不穏さを湛えたいろんな意味でのスクリュー情緒はクラムス・カジノやスフィアン3000の手捌きで継承しつつ、2チェインズやケンドリック・ラマーらとの先行カット“Fuckin' Problems"にしろ、ダニー・ブラウンらとのマイクリレー“1Train"にしろ、スクリレックスやフローレンス・ウェルチからオーヴァードーズまで抜け目ない助演の顔ぶれにしろ、ちょっとズルいぐらいのカードの切り方だ。インディー愛好家にとってはモニュメンタルになるのだろうけど、そうじゃなくてもズルズル楽しみたい愛すべき傑作。
