環境破壊によって発生した半魚人的モンスター。彼らは、繁殖のために、海辺の町の若い女性を狙った・・・・ロジャー・コーマン総指揮、ロブ・ボッティン特殊メイクのさすがのB級ホラー。監督は、この作品の後、TV監督として活躍した女性監督バーバラ・ピータース。博士役で、リチャード・ハリス夫人だった頃のアン・ターケルが主演。音楽は、超初期時代のジェームズ・ホーナー(27歳!)。ストリングスの不協和音、明解なメロディの中にトランペットが作り上げるムードもなかなかのテーマから、かなりハッタリきかせつつ娯楽ホラーらしい雰囲気を盛り立てる、心得たサウンド。16～18曲目はテレビ映画として1996年にリメイクされた作品からのスコア(音楽 クリストファー・レナーツ)を収録。これがなかなかオリジナルの雰囲気を継続させて楽しく、19曲目にはホーナーのアウトテイクを収録。 (C)馬場敏裕
