アーティストティックな活動のなかで、＜破壊と創造＞を高いレヴェルで実現するのは容易いことではないが、DIR EN GREYが放ったアルバム『UROBOROS』の凄まじい衝撃度は、まさに究極に突き詰めたその過程を明確に映し出していた。大局的にはヘヴィー・ロックに分類される側面を持ちつつ、既存のカテゴリーには収めきれない固有の音像。一切の妥協なき壮絶な取り組みは、周囲が予想していた以上の圧巻たる結実を導いた。この『UROBOROS-with the proof in the name of living...-AT NIPPON BUDOKAN』はそんな重要作を引っ提げたワールド・ツアーのファイナルとなる、2010年1月9日・10日に行われた日本武道館公園の模様を完全収録したライヴDVDだ。かつて『UROBOROS』の楽曲を＜手強い＞と口にしていた彼らは、約1年間に及ぶ各地での転戦を通してみずから生み出したエポックメイキングなマテリアルと改めて向き合い、その真髄を研ぎ澄ましてきた。今回の映像が伝える最終形態は、DIR EN GREYの存在そのものを体現していると捉えて良いだろう。再生もしくは不老不死の象徴である＜UROBOROS＞の理念を拡大させながら、原点への回帰も導く両日を通じたセットリスト、音源と同調する独特のオリエンタリズムを感じさせる光と画による総合的な演出 - もちろんその核となるのは京、薫、Die、Toshiya、Shinyaの5人である。一瞬の弛みすら許されない、緊張感のある演奏がオーディエンスを誘っていく。直情的な熱狂と陰鬱な静穏。彼らがステージで描く世界観は、瞬発的な轟音も魅力である一方、受けての内面に重々しい感情をも残す。その独特の空気感は本作からも感じ取れるはずだ。すでに世界的な支持を得ている事実が話題に上ることは多いが、それはあくまでも結果論に過ぎない。目の前で繰り広げられている稀有なパフォーマンスが、何よりもDIR EN GREYの高い説得力の源なのである。
