Director Leon Gast's legendary 1971 documentary, Our Latin Thing (Nuestra Cosa), offers footage from a veritable who's-who of the New York salsa world with this edition of the Fania All-Stars, performing on a single night at the Cheetah, and interspersed with interviews and documentary footage of the barrio. The next time the Fania All-Stars were documented, it was not at a nightclub, but in front of 40,000 fans at Yankee Stadium in 1973. In other words, this is the film that started the salsa craze in America and across Europe. Highly recommended, not only as a historical document, but as a way into discovering the variety of the wild world of New York salsa in the '70s. ~ Thom Jurek

間違いないリリースで確固たる人気を誇るStrutとサルサ名門Faniaによるコラボ・リリース作は、40周年を迎えたFania All Starsによる1971年Cheetahでの伝説的ライヴ音源『Live At The Cheetah』と、そのライヴ映像はもちろん、当時のNYラテン・ピープルの生活風景をコラージュしたサルサ・ファン経典的ドキュメンタリー映画『Our Latin Things』のアニヴァーサリー・エディション!!1964年の創設以来急成長し、まさに絶頂期を迎えていたJohnny Pacheco率いるFania Recordsが、1971年8月に敏腕プロモーター:Ralph MercadoによってCheetahで開催されたライヴ・イヴェントに登場。言わずとしれたRay Barettoを筆頭に、Ismael Miranda、Larry Harlow、Bobby Valentino、Hector Lavoe、そしてCheo Felicianoまで、Faniaが誇る凄腕ミュージシャンの魂の演奏と、熱狂するラテン・ピープルの心が一つになったまさに奇跡の瞬間が詰まった大作。字幕こそないものの、熱のこもったミュージシャンたちの演奏や興奮に包まれた会場の熱気、そしてヒスパニック・コミュニティーの生活を伝えるDVDには感動すら覚えるはず(ところどころ画像の乱れはありますが、当時にしては映像の質も上々)。
