Yes, believe it or not, CELTIC COLLECTIONS is on K-Tel, which changed its image in the '90s from tacky compiler of haphazardly edited hits collections to a purveyor of budget-priced but sympathetically constructed anthologies featuring relative obscurities amidst the expected hits. Clannad's entry in K-Tel's CELTIC COLLECTIONS series is a good overview of this underrated Irish folk/new age band's career up to 1991.
It covers both their early days playing traditional Irish folk music and their more experimental and eclectic later period, when the family group--the group's core members are the older siblings of Irish chanteuse Enya--combined their folk roots with wafting electronic keyboards and heavily overdubbed, reverbed vocals. "Harry's Game", a surprise hit due to its use in a Volkswagen commercial in the early '90s, is both the pinnacle of this style and the collection's leadoff track. This is a fine, inexpensive introduction.|
