R.E.M.解散。31年のキャリアを総括する、レーベルの枠を超え、IRSとワーナー時代双方の音源合計37曲&新曲3曲、全40曲のグレイテスト・ヒッツ・アルバム!バンド・メンバーのビル・ベリー、ピーター・バック、マイク・ミルズ、そしてマイケル・スタイプによるライナー・ノーツの他、このアルバムには前作『COLLAPSE INTO NOW』完成後に作られた新曲3曲がフィーチャーされている。これらの3曲、｢A Month of Saturdays｣、｢We All Go Back To Where We Belong｣、そして｢Hallelujah｣は2011年の夏いっぱいをかけて、『ACCELERATE』と『COLLAPSE INTO NOW』を手掛けた有能プロデューサー、ジャックナイフ・リーとともにレコーディングされた。
