This compilation CD is drawn from two previously released LPs, the Nick Reynolds/John Stewart duo album Revenge of the Budgie (1983) and the Stewart solo album The Trio Years (1986). Both of those recordings, in turn, found Stewart re-recording songs from his tenure in the Kingston Trio (which also featured Reynolds). He is entitled to reclaim these songs, of course, since he wrote them. Here, he serves as his own producer and engineer, too. Kingston Trio fans may prefer the original recordings by the group, but Stewart's versions place the songs more in the style of his post-Trio solo career, which also has its merits and its fans. ~ William Ruhlmann
