The second of four samplers issued by A&M, this set mixes together avant-garde jazz with avant-rock, some of the performances working better than others. Gary Lucas is heard on an unusual solo guitar version of Albert Ayler's "Ghosts," pianist Myra Melford stretches out on "Some Kind of Blues," Joey Baron gets some odd sounds on electronics during a solo "Pause of the Clock" and guitarist Sonny-Sharrock's quintet romps on "Dick Dogs." other selections feature the quartet Chunk, Odd Job (a group with altoist Ned Rothenberg), a trio with guitarist Fred Frith, a unit led by percussionist Glen Velez and a strange duet of turntables and electronic percussion.
