2007年作『Aman Iman』がいわゆるワールド・ミュージック・ファンのみならずロック・リスナーの間でも話題になり、今夏も世界中のフェスに引っ張りだこなサハラ砂漠エリア発のバンド、ティナリウェンの5作目。今年の＜フジロック＞で観た方も多いかもしれないが、本作は生ギター音への回帰が特徴的だ。ブルースに影響された部分とアフリカ伝統音楽の混ざり具合が自然で、独特の乾いたグルーヴを生んでいる。

バック・トゥ・ルーツがテーマだった『イミディワン～アフリカの仲間たち』以来となる5作目の注目点は、サウンドの要だったエレキ・ギターが封印されていること。アコースティック・ギターをフィーチャーし、よりじっくりと原点を見つめ直すような音作りを実践している。ひょっとしたら、あの独特のエグみが薄れてしまっているのではないか? そんな不安もよぎったが、カラカラに渇いたギターの音色と手拍子、生パーカッションによるアンサンブルがめっぽう強力なグルーヴを生み出していて仰天。ざわつき感に満ちたディープなアコースティック・ブルースがひしめき合っていた。T V・オン・ザ・レイディオのトゥンデ・アデビンペ&キップ・マローンが参加した《Tenere Taquim Tossam》などプリミティヴなビートの向こうに深遠なるサウンドスケープが広がる超刺激的な仕上がりだ。ウィルコのニルス・クライン、ダーティー・ダズン・ブラス・バンドのホーン隊も参加したかなりの意欲作である。
