Includes liner notes by Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth). This is part of the Geffen Goldline Series. Liner Note Author: Gina Birch. Recording information: Bob's Bory St. Studio (1980-1981). Photographers: Shirley O'Loughlin; Carmen Knoebel; Janette Beckman; Phil Grey ; Ana Da Silva. It was the late Kurt Cobain (with some help from labelmates Sonic Youth) who initiated Geffen's reissue of the Raincoats' catalog. And listening to Odyshape, it's easy to see why Cobain loved them so. There's an emotional directness about these songs that hooks you from the start. Mostly you hear about emotions and situations, sometimes indirectly, almost as if you are eavesdropping on a conversation. Then it hits you: it's almost like you're talking to old friends. That's the way the Raincoats' music works: it's deceptively simple, but extremely complicated. Also, as on this record, it makes demands of the listener. But songs like "Red Shoes" and "Dancing in My Head" say this far more eloquently. ~ John Dougan

商品の紹介

Spin (p.81) - "ODYSHAPE is cleaner and lonelier than their debut, dominated by violin, thudding tom-toms, and African and Jamaican influences via the streets of London." Uncut (p.95) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "It's a brilliantly odd and spooky stew of post-punk and avant-garde..." NME (Magazine) (1/22/94, p.26) - 9 - Excellent - "...thirteen years on it's like a thing from outer space, laid out and awaiting the new audience...." Record Collector (magazine) (pp.100-101) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[With] the odd cello-driven reggae of 'Dancing In My Head,' the stripped DIY of 'Family Treet' and the chaotic title track."
