LIVE IN CHICAGO is guitarist Big Jack Johnson's fourth release for the small blues label Earwig. The tracks were recorded live at two hometown gigs, March 1995 at Buddy Guy's Legends and June 1994 at The Hothouse. For both sets, Johnson, who also records and tours as lead guitarist for the Jelly Roll Kings, is backed by the Aron Burton Band, with Lester "Mad Dog" Davenport sitting in on harp for the 1994 tracks. Bassist Burton is a careful bandleader, giving each musician room to showcase his impressive chops but keeping grandstanding to a minimum. As a result, it's Johnson's show all the way, and the fiery guitarist ripping through Chicago blues classics like "Pistol Packin' Mama," "Night Train" and "Since I Met You Baby" like nobody's business.
