このアルバムに収録された曲を書いたチェレプニン（1873-1945）は、既に良く知られているアレクサンドルではなく、その父、ニコライです。サンクトペテルブルクで生まれ、リムスキー＝コルサコフに作曲を学び、一時期は指揮者としても活躍。ディアギレフの「ロシア・バレエ団」でも指揮台に立っていた人です。フランス印象主義の影響も受けつつ、古典的なフォルムを持った愛らしいピアノ曲を多く書いています。このアルバムに収録された3つの曲集は、なんとも軽妙洒脱であり、また示唆に富むものです。ブックレットの中には、「ロシアのアルファベット」の元となったイラストも挿入されていますので、一層イメージが膨らむことでしょう。
